Mobile Health teams have screened 2.2 Lakh children in the telangana district so far

The Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK), run by the Union Government, has come to the rescue of students studying in government schools. The RBSK programme commenced in the district in January 2016, and the district early intervention centre (DEIC) was established in June the same year. The staff of RBSK was given a target of covering all the schools and anganwadis, catering to about 2.6 lakh children.

The mobile health teams have so far screened 2.2 lakh children in the district, between May 2017 and January 2018. As many as 132 children needed surgical intervention, which were completed with the help of different hospitals.

The surgeries included cardiac (43), cleft lip and palate (55), squint and cataract (26), hypospadias (1), chronic tonsillitis, chronic suppurative otitis media (3) and orthopaedic (4).

In addition, 151 hearing aids and 480 spectacles were distributed under the scheme. DEIC has conducted 28 special camps to screen the students.“The district is doing well in addressing the problems of students under the RBSK programme. Still, we can do better and efforts are on in that direction. There was a need for better convergence among various departments. With the recent intervention of District Legal Services Authority, which would oversee the implementation of the programme, more students will benefit from this,” said an official.
